Greetings Exit Glacier Guide community!
My name is Josh Solomon and I am super stoked about my opportunity to begin guiding for Exit Glacier Guides this upcoming season. I grew up dreaming of Alaska from my suburban Baltimore home, but I settled for tramping around on the small mole hills of the mid-atlantic states with my family. A few trips out west with my dad got me hooked on all things outdoors. After starting college at Colgate University, I was able to lead trips and instruct classes in whitewater kayaking, rock climbing, and telemark skiing for our Outdoor Education program. The Adirondacks of upstate New York have since become my second home. I also enjoyed a semester abroad in New Zealand (shout out to our new kiwi guide, Jasmine!) of paddling and climbing, while presumably still attending Uni. Although, I am fairly sure I spent more time bouldering in Castle Hill than in class. When I was able to find time for schoolwork at Colgate, I was focused on my major in Geology. I was fortunate enough to spend last summer in the high arctic of Svalbard conducting glaciology research. This has since turned into my senior thesis project, which I am currently procrastinating writing by instead writing this blog entry.
In exactly one month, I will be walking across the stage at my graduation and pretty much straight onto an airplane bound for Anchorage. I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather be headed to begin this next part of my life. See you all soon!
