Our single day Introduction to Mountaineering is designed for individuals looking to learn the basics of climbing

Introduction To Mountaineering Course

This introductory course will teach participants either the basics of snow climbing such as crampon technique, snow anchors and self arresting or the basics of ice climbing such as belaying, rappelling, ice anchors and the technique of climbing itself.  The material taught will depend on both the snow/ice conditions in the Seward area and the interests of the participants.

Overall this course is a geared towards adventurous individuals with a desire to learn new skills and gain greater independence in their outdoor pursues.  This course is a good fit for either folks who have climbed indoors but are looking to move out of the gym or avid skiers looking to expand their skillsets.  Furthermore, for those with less climbing experience but interested in our 2-day Crevasse Rescue Course, this course will prepare them for that more advanced course.

Our Introduction to Mountaineering Course has a small client to guide ratio of 3:1, allowing all the participants ample learning and practice time with the instructors.  Our guides are the most experienced in Seward, with numerous first ascents and climbs on glaciated peaks and frozen waterfalls throughout the Chugach Mountains, Alaska Range, the Cascades, Rocky Mountains, New Zealand, and South America.
