An adventure of a lifetime awaits. Be Among the first clients to ever be flown up onto the Harding Icefield for a half day of exploration and some of the most stunning views in Alaska
Glacier Ski Plane Adventure
The Harding Icefield is one of the largest intact icecaps in North America and rarely sees human footprints dot its glaciated surface. A remnant of the last major ice age 12,000 years ago the Harding encompasses about 700 square miles of ice field and glaciers. This reservoir of glacier ice feeds all the glaciers that make Kenai Fjords National Park such a popular destination for travelers and wildlife.
The adventure starts with a scenic flight in a ski plane specifically designed for glacier landings. Our pilot will land us in a high glacial bowl in the upper portion of the ice field. Once out of the plane we start a 30-45 minute trek up the ridge of a mountain still encapsulated in ice where we can get an unforgettable view of the ice field, Bear Glacier, Bear Glacier lagoon and the Gulf of Alaska.
This trip is designed to have plenty of time to hike and explore, but also to relax and bask in the jaw dropping beauty and grandeur of the Harding Icefield. We will spend about 3 hours on the ice field before being picked up by the ski plane for another scenic flight back to Seward.
Please note that cloud cover can sometimes impact our ability to run this trip
If that is the case on the day of your trip, we'll try as hard as we can to incorporate your group into our Helicopter Ice Hiking schedule for the day. We run this alternative trip at a lower elevation, and it is frequently able to safely operate on days where there is too much cloud cover to get the ski plane to the icefield. It's a great way to ensure that your group still gets to have an unforgettable day!
